Hyderabad: Hyderabad is known globally for its biryani, but the city’s rich history and achievements extend far beyond its famed cuisine, said Dr Dinesh C Sharma, the author of the book Beyond Biryani – The Making of a Globalised Hyderabad.
Speaking at an event hosted by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Dr Sharma, a renowned science journalist and columnist, delved into city’s lesser-known history. He highlighted that Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, India’s eminent engineer, proposed riverfront activities along the Musi River as early as 1908, following devastating floods that inundated the city.
Dr Sharma emphasised the need for institutions to preserve their histories. “Beyond commemorative souvenirs for milestone anniversaries, most organisations fail to document their journey. The memory of institutions is unfortunately very short,” he said, urging FTCCI President Suresh Kumar Singhal to chronicle the chamber’s 107-year history for posterity.
The talk also covered the significant role city played in the country’s IT revolution.
